Burrell Leasing & Development
Our heritage is traced back to Burrell Construction and Supply Company, founded on July 10, 1935. This fledgling company, principally doing business in concrete and asphalt-based construction, started with one operating plant and five employees. At the height of the company’s business operations, more than 600 employees and 12 plants operated across the Western Pennsylvania region.
In the early 1980’s, Burrell began to expand by selling concrete and mortar products approved for underground use in the mining industry . This new venture created the foundation for Burrell Mining Products, Inc., established on October 17, 1984. In addition to plants in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Utah, Burrell expanded its mining operation in 1996 with two new locations in Australia through a partnership with Adelaide Brighton, one of that country’s leading integrated construction materials and lime producers.
As part of a re-structure, the company sold its Burrell Construction Company in 1988 and transferred its remaining businesses (Burrell Mining International and Westmoreland Insurance Services) under a new company named Burrell Group, Inc.
Burrell Leasing & Development was established in early 80’s with the development of the Indian Fields I & II residential properties in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Today this division includes 18 commercial leases, 100,000 square feet of rental space, and 250 acres of commercial land.
Burrell’s Corporate offices are headquartered at The Burrell Business Center in New Kensington, PA.
